PILONIDAL DISEASE
These changes most often occur in the gluteal groove (sacrococcygeal region) in the form of small fistulous openings or cystic formations. Hair can be found inside sinuses or cysts in 40% of patients. The cause of this lesion is the ingrowth of hair into the dermis, which provokes inflammation. Some believe that it is a congenital disease. They can occur in other places as well, wherever there are folds of skin and hair.
Treatment of Pilonidal disease
In case of sinus abscess, incisions and drainage are induced, and for chronic non-inflamed cysts, the treatment method is excision into a healthy environment up to the presacral fascia. The recurrence rate varies from 5% to 25%, either due to incomplete initial surgery or the formation of a new sinus. In the last few years, for the treatment of simple and non-infected sinuses, the use of lasers has played a major role in treatment.
